Operations Engineer
Location: Palo Alto
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement and manage highly scalable web infrastructure network for K-12 teachers and students
- Support a Wikipedia like web system for public school systems, teachers and students to successfully author, collaborate and publish text books
- Work closely with developers and designers to define the network architecture and management policies of the network
- Evaluate and select open source and standards based networking components to complement widely adopted infrastructure products
Requirements:
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent and 5+ years experience in implementing and managing highly scalable websites
- Proficiency in Shell Scripting, PHP and Email Tools with experience in networking management and monitoring tools
- Understanding of usability, manageability and infrastructure issues for web sites and web-based applications
- Experience/Knowledge in data center management and all other IT related issues
Prefered:
- Experience with open source systems such as Linux, Apache, MySQL/PgSQL or any other RDBMS highly desired.
- Previous experience in designing a successfully deployed production quality web systems
- Ability to manage procurement process, IT budgets and implement evaluation criteria for vendors and data center service providers
